TCF Bank is the wholly owned banking subsidiary of TCF Financial Corporation, a bank holding company headquartered in Detroit, Michigan. As of August 10, 2020, TCF Bank had approximately 475 branches in Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan, Colorado, Wisconsin, Ohio, and South Dakota.

Client Christopher Snyder says, "Ever since TCF Bank bought chemical bank it has been a complete nightmare. Chemical Bank would answer your call. At TCF Bank if you need to call into customer service on a random Wednesday afternoon, you will sit on the phone for 45 minutes and then the call will just hang up on you. You have to go to an actual bank to get any help. I paid off my home equity loan with them 2 weeks ago. They're still charging interest, and yet to receive my payment even though my primary mortgage company already received the money a week and a half ago. TCF Bank does NOT have their act together. Take your money elsewhere!"

"Beware. If you are older than management you are left to fend for yourself. And good luck getting answers when help is needed if you are at home. And heaven forbid you loose a loved one and take some time off. I was out a month for this reason and I was expected to work in office when I came back because of it. Penalized for loosing my child!"

"TCF is a horrible place/company to work for. A normal day at work is pretty much the same, lots of policy and law breaking, horrible management, and a lot of being forced to shove products down customers throats. TCF stands for "The Customer First", which is ironic because the customer is the last thing they care about, TCF screws customers over day in and day out. Management is horrible, especially the way higher ups. I learned some about banking, which I'd hope for since other banks make fun of TCF and call it the training bank. It is literally a joke of a bank. The best part of the job was running transactions I guess; however, TCF is a HORRIBLE place to work."

"There was an incident where the trainer and the supervisor of the TCF Retail Lending department made a comment while they were helping a fellow associate which was a direct attack towards myself. The trainer is known for attacking people due to their fashion and what they wore and was not afraid to speak her mind if it bothered her. She is also known for talking about employees behind their backs usually it's bad. I sat down with this supervisor to confront him about the situation in which we cleared the air. I left that conversation still unclear as my questions were not answered. He may have taken my frustrations from the conversation the wrong way because when I got home I got a call from my employer (I was a contractor) stating I was let go from the position. The Loan Servicing Supervisor had told my employers that I was let go because it was in my best interest and the companies best interest. First of all do not tell me what you think my best interest are when I have bills and rent to pay. Second do not say it was in the companies best interest when I was a top tier performer. I showed up to work everyday and did my job. Also my employer stated the company thought since I lived far and wanted to go back to working two jobs it's a good decision. Okay not once I had complained about the commute I may have said thing like traffic takes forever but it was never a compliant and also I was never approached by my supervisor about working a later shift. I found out about the 11- 8 schedule change based on his conversation with another employee. Clearly he told lies to cover up Cons: Short Breaks, Bad Relationships With Contractors, Unprofessional Environment"

"My manager was very vulgar and treated with disrespect. Had to sit in conference from 9:00 to 4:00 every day. Was being disrespected by the other IT Team Members. Cons: my manager treated very badly, over worked and under paid"

"Horrible assistant manager, didn’t know to train. Spends most of her time on her computer looking at pictures of her cats, or cat babies as she called them. If her time wasn’t wasted on looking cats, she’d spent the other half of her day trying to figure out how to sell handbags instead teaching and helping others grow. "Young in mature workers, a lot of drama in the workplace. There were a lot of clicks in the bank. As a tell her you have to do a lot of cold calling to sell items even if you don’t understand how the item works. They don’t give you enough training. Cons: No breaks just a lunch break. Low pay, a lot of drama in the workplace"

"Its not a good place to work, products to offer are bad. Management is very weak, branch managers absolutely do nothing. Too much office politics, co workers are not even qualified enough and work culture is very toxic"

"When i was there the sales goals were almost impossible to meet, the products they offer are not that good either so it makes it even harder. However, it is a laid back environment once you meet your goals, if you do. I always did but that's because I'm talented. Cons: very hard goals to meet"

"DO NOT BORROW MONEY FROM TCF!!! They are the worst. I give them ZERO stars. My broker got me a HELOC with TCF in 2018. We started the process at the end of July and the loan was finally funded at the end of October. THREE MONTHS! Even with the HELOC we had over 50% equity in the house. In September, 2020 we decided to take advantage of the great rates and payoff the TCF HELOC and the first mortgage with a new mortgage. Process took less than a month. Later that year we needed to move to another state so in January, 2020 we started to sell our house. Two weeks before closing our title company informed us that our loan with TCF was still open with a zero balance. After spending time on the phone with TCF Customer Service we were sent a form to close the loan and a fax number. The title officer spent several weeks trying to get the form to TCF. They gave her several fax numbers but none of them worked. She finally emailed the form to them and nothing happened. The night before closing the title officer called me to tell me there was a problem. The morning of the closing I contacted TCF Customer Service and they said they never received the form. They did confirm that my balance was zero. I contacted by broker and he contacted the title company that handled the TCF closing. They sent me the paperwork, proof of wire transfers, etc. I filled out a new Authorization form and emailed it to TCF along with the paperwork proving that the account was to have been closed in October, 2020. Customer Service advised me to contact them again after 4PM to see if they could expedite the process which normally takes a week or so. TCF makes it very difficult to get a loan and damned near impossible to get out of a loan. "

"People who works in TCF Bank in Hartland, Mi are not professional, IQ have below average. They don\'t try to help and solve the problem, and manager are the worst. Who qualifies these people for this position?"

"TCF Bank recently merged with Chemical Bank of Detroit. For customers of both banks the rollout was a utter disaster! Account balances changing, debit cards not being recognized, funds not being available, Online and by mail statements not available to many, if not most customers for months and worst of all no one who had any answers. I used the messaging from my TCF online account page and after waiting 10 days without any response I tried to call customer service. I made several calls that got auto-answered but never put into Q and when they did wait times exceeded hours. When finally answered by a human that was already frustrated, short tempered, rude and had NO answer as to when the situation of my debit card being rejected or getting my last 4 months of statements would be resolved.
In mid Sept my debit card issue was resolved. In mid Oct my 6 months of missing statements were again available online and ALL service and account fee's had be raised, NO previous were ever sent!
Every customer service person I spoke or messaged with, over the 5 months, at best just kept repeating the same "scripted non-answer stalls" and at worst were just downright rude.
Search "TCF Issues / problems 2020" online BEFORE you do business them.
After 30 years banking with TCF - I DONE! Moved my accounts elsewhere. Zero stars would be to many but we're forced to click ONE just to post here.
TCF Bank's customer service via phone has never been more than just adequate. As a bank that too was just sort of OK as long as you didn't have an issue. Over the last decade they've closed many of their full service, free standing banks and opened kiosks in grocery and other stores. Usually these small branches offered decent, friendlier service."

"Their online banking is a joke and their customer service line doesn't work. I tried for three days to get through. When I did get through they claimed it was going to be an hour and then two hours because their system was down. Insane."

"TCF Bank has the worst customer service that I have ever experienced. I deposited a payroll check on Friday 10/13/17. Today is now Wednesday 10/18/17 and my money is still not made available to me! My truck broke down and I have not been able to get it fixed due to this bank holding my money. I talked to a "lead" this morning about releasing my find and was told "we didn't do anything to you, we didn't lie to you!" This is the response I received as a customer of theirs on and off for 15 years. I'm closing my account and will make sure every person I know, knows that TCF bank are horrible people and DO NOT TRUST THEM!!!!!"
